Kiesza is a multi-faceted artist from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She has created her own distinctive sound, influenced by jazz, folk, pop, country and even gospel music, but with a heavy Celtic influence. In fact, her influences often border on avant-garde and psychedelic. Her music frequently includes traditional instruments such as the banjo and guitar, as well as non-traditional instruments such as the kazoo and racka. Kiesza was born in Calgary, Alberta, where her musical interests were sparked while growing up listening to the Olds.
Kiesza began her music career at age thirteen in Calgary when she enrolled in the University of Calgary’s Bachelor of Arts program. While attending berklee, Kiesza honed her skills performing as an accompanist and vocalist for jazz, rock, folk, ballet, vocal and string ensembles. After graduating, Kiesza decided to pursue a music career in which she could showcase her unique talents. This is when she began studying keyboard in the small studio located on the top floor of Rackley Hall. It was there that she earned her Master of Music Degree in Keyboard from the University of Toronto in stereo engineering. Following her graduation, Kiesza pursued various recording and performance careers throughout North America, but pursued a multi-arts role in the world of opera where she appeared in over twenty-six shows, including La Favorite de losicientos (The Lovely Faultless Face), Te De Janeiro (The Woman Who Played the Favourite) and El Loco (The Mystery of La Roqueta).
Today, Kiesza lives in New York City where she continues to hone her craft. She currently has one album to her credit and is looking forward to performing on stage again soon. She recently had the opportunity to sing and perform alongside established artists at the “La Nouvelle Jazz” musicality festival in New York. In addition to her singing career, Kiesza has released numerous duets as well as albums with other artists.

After meeting and becoming close with Wybie, singer/songwriter/performer Kiesza flew to Canada to spend time with the musician in order to work on her latest album. During this visit, they bonded together and spent some quality time just enjoying their time together. During this time, the two women discussed how they could help each other with their respective careers. Kiesza says “Wybie and I are very close friends and also have the same type of music taste, which is country music.” As soon as they were finished recording their song for their album, Wybie flew back to New York and was able to provide vocals and guitar parts for the track
Since then, Kiesza was able to meet many other talented individuals such as Canadian pop sensation Trisha Yearwood, her former Canadian Idol contestant Kelley Washburn, Calgary Flames defenceman Johnny O’Brien, as well as other members of the Calgary show Chasing the Nightfish. This gave Kiesza the insight that her dream of being a songwriter/singer/performer could be a reality. Kiesza pursued her music career in the United States, but when she was offered a chance to collaborate with a legendary pop artist from Canada, she jumped at the chance. Kiesza says “Wybie is like my brother. I admire him for his courage and boldness. I look forward to learning more about him as an artist.”
Kiesza will be making a few more music comeback in the near future. She is signed to the popular Canadian rock band “Waves” and is working on her latest album. While it may be some time before her return to the limelight, one thing is for sure; her voice has resonated with listeners all over the world. Her song, “Necklace” will most likely become a classic, alternative or hidden gem of a track and it is safe to assume that there won’t be any more Kiesza covers for quite a while.
