But for those who love Schlapman’s parties, even those who don’t normally like Country Music, they’ll be in heaven with this year’s selection.

The Tennessee Opera: This annual celebration of sorts is held at the Galtry Opera House on Friday, January 3rd through Sunday, April 9th. In recent years, Kimberly has also been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Music, Original Score. The gala will celebrate the latest works of Peter Gelbzkoff, Frank Gehry, and Peter Segal. First Lady of the Year: As a former contestant on “American Idol,” Kimberly has gained quite a bit of exposure over the last year or so. Her song “The First Thanksgiving” became a huge hit and served as a companion piece to outgoing singer-actor Jennifer Lopez’s own Thanksgiving song. Her appearance on the finale of “The Voice” helped as well, as did her acceptance of President Barack Obama’s offer to speak at the Democratic National Convention. Beyond her appearances on television and the opera stage, though, there’s very little that most people have heard from Kimberly beyond her occasional notes in public. She has also made several guest appearances on podcasts hosted by The Late Show with David Letterman, and on Conan O’Brien’s show. Her first book, a biography of singer-dancer-actor-writer-producer Jerry Lee Lewis, was released in January of 2021, before she even finished her turn on “The Voice.”

The River Dance Troupe: At this point, there are only a handful of female vocalists left in the United States who have made it to the big time, and Kimberly Schlapman fits right in at number four. The band that she formed with her former friend Patti LaBelle in 2021, featuring herself, Patti, Kimbell, and Jill Scott, has gone on to become one of the best-known high-powered female duos in country music, playing shows all over the world. The group’s four members have also gone on to have successful careers, releasing several critically acclaimed CDs, including three that reached golden status. Kimberly’s voice is distinctive, warm, and melodic, drawing many listeners to her songs. Her vocal ability has also earned her several Grammys and awards, including a recording of the year for Best Music Performance, for her work with The River Dance Troupe.

The Last Rites of Tragedy: Although The River Dance Troupe only released one album, 2021’s Requiem for a Friend, it was widely considered a masterpiece. It featured standout performances by Kimbell, along with guest spots from Jill Scott and Patti LaBelle, along with a collection of songs including the timeless “Goodbye, Goodbye.” The piano-based instrumental and lyrical jaunts featured on “Goodbye” are standouts, as is the song’s unforgettable closing line,” Fare you well, goodbye.” Kimberly Schlapman has also since joined other notable groups such as Skye Westwood, who she plays keyboards with, and the Church of Angels, which she fronts.
