Cate Blanchett was born in September 1974 in Melbourne, Australia. A bright and talented child, Blanchett attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in Sydney, where she became known for her distinct dramatic flair. She studied drama at university in Australia before moving to Hollywood where she continued her studies for two more years. Her first professional acting job was on the television series advertisement for Burger King. Following this role, Blanchett appeared in several high profile films including Pretty Woman, A Few Good Men, Love Actually, Edward Scissorhands, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
After working for several years in Hollywood, Cate Blanchett decided it was time to venture into different genres of films. She began to focus on less mainstream fare such as romance movies, science fiction, horror movies, and action. Among her many dramatic roles were the lead roles in two of her favorite films of all time, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Rounders. This film was followed by the equally successful Meet the Parents, which further cemented Blanchett’s place in Hollywood.
After finishing a turn in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Blanchett returned to her more mainstream film roles, playing the mother in the well known Sydney film, Notting Hill with Geoff Rush. She also had supporting roles in the equally successful Seabiscuit, and Cleopatra. In 2021, Blanchett starred in the award winning film The Royal Ballet, which was directed by Guy Ritchie. She also made a guest appearance on the award winning television show Spaced, playing Queen Victoria. In her most recent film, the movie Alice in Wonderland, Blanchett once again stars as the lively and mysterious Alice. She plays the role of the modern day Alice, who is captured by the Queen of Hearts in an effort to keep her kingdom from descending into chaos. With the help of her friend, the Red Queen (BD Tompkins), Alice escapes from the palace with her friends, but is pursued by the evil Queen.
