Leona Lewis

Leona Lewis is an accomplished British singer, songwriter and actor. Born and raised in the London Borough of Islington, she attended the prestigious BRIT School for performing arts and technology in Croydon, South London. She has also spent time performing as a stage actress in films such as “Trainspotting” and “Afterlife with Theasers.”

Leona Lewis first gained attention as a performer while still attending secondary school in her native Britain. She gained recognition through a performance on the popular children’s television show “UK’s Most Got Sick Kids.” From there, she moved on to playing different characters in shows for children such as “The Goodnight Party” and “Who did It?” After that, she became a popular singer with various popular songs including one that was used on the soundtrack to the film, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Leona Lewis currently has several recording deals in the United Kingdom, including with Virgin and Matador.

Leona Lewis began releasing music as a solo artist in 2008. Her self-titled debut album was released in March of that year and was quickly successful. In the span of two years, she sold over one million copies of her first album, which was followed by another full-length album, titled “Bitter Truth.” The single “Bitter Truth” was the second single from her sophomore album, which was released in June of the same year.

Leona Lewis has also released several demos and single songs as a guest artist. She has performed on songs with artists such as Kasabian, The Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, The Rolling Stones, Ska, AFI, Weezer and The Arctic Monkeys. Leona has also opened for well-known pop star, David Bowie. No doubt, she is just getting started, but she looks to be a very bright future in the music industry.

Leona Lewis is still a student at university in the United States. It is unclear what will happen with her in the next few years. At the moment, Leona has focused on writing music and continuing her musical career. One indication as to what may come in her future, is that she will release a book written by her friend and fellow musician, Glen Campbell, called “The Best Kept Secret: An American History of Songwriting,” in late 2009 or early 2010. Another project that is in the works is an album entitled “Lenny Kravitz: Stories & Notes,” from the same publishing house who is publishing her “Glassheart” demo album.

Leona has gained much exposure over the past few years since her graduation from college. She has appeared on numerous television shows including Dateline, 60 Minutes II, ABC News, The Oprah Winfrey Show, as well as several other talk shows. Her song “Breaking Free” was a number one hit on the charts in the United Kingdom and Leona has recorded over twenty songs for various companies. As with many graduates of college, Leona Lewis has considered taking up writing professionally, so it is likely that her musical endeavours will continue for quite some time into the future.
