Hailee Steinfeld was born in Southern California. Her parents were both artists. Her mother was a singer and song writer, while her father was a well-known photographer. Hailee grew up in foster homes and spent some time in juvenile reform centers. After receiving a GED in high school, she attended college briefly, then worked as a teacher’s aide in a writing center.
Then, she landed a role on Broadway in Off Broadway, playing the role of Anna Kournikoff in Lion King. Steinfeld went on to play the same role in the musical revival of Rent It, also starring Broadway veteran’s Joanna Macy and John Cullum. Her Broadway stint became part of the Off Broadway hit documentary The Artist, as well as the film adaptation of the same name. After that, Steinfeld appeared in the film’s adaptation of Sleeping Beauty, Kiss of the Lion, Picking Up Someone in the City, and A Raisin in the Sun as well as the TV series Mulan. Recently, Hailee Steinfeld was nominated for an Academy Award for her work in the movie adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.
Hailee Steinfeld’s career path followed by many similar paths to that of Florence Lawrence, except she did not end up becoming a leading lady or an actress who starlets grace the screens. Instead, she became one of the best known and most respected of all American contemporary artists. Her unique voice, unique art style, and interesting characters have made her a unique and respected figure in American literature. Her most recent book, The Billy Saves The Forest, is a collection of her written work. Her filmography includes the likes of Easy Rider, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and Mulan.
Hailee Steinfeld’s three feature films are an interesting example of what can be done in an American film with true grit and complexity. In Born To Be Wild, she plays a teenage girl who lives with her abusive father. She slowly goes from being an abused victim to an inspiring, bold and determined survivor.
The Cable Guy is another interesting example of what can be done in an American female film, this time, a female artist starring as herself. This film also stars Edgie Nelson and Emily Watson, two more stars on the rise in the world of independent cinema. The Cable Guy is directed by David Fincher and was released in December of 2021. The movie is about a young man who must navigate his way through a small town as he tries to get his acting career off the ground after being discovered. It is a very serious film with a strong message. It went to a lot of consideration but ultimately failed to receive an award for the best female nominee.
The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, the third installment of the wildly successful series, is set to begin filming soon. The film reunites the original film cast including Dylan O’Brien, Ki Hong Lee and Kaya Scodelario. Scodelario is most known for her work on the Twilight films but also has appeared in the Saw franchise. This time around, she is playing someone very different, a man called Max who was found dead in the mall. Expect plenty of gun fire, intense action and more of the intense fighting that fans have come to love.
