Julia Roberts is a multi-faceted actress and director. A nominee for eight Academy Awards including Best Actress in a Leading Role, Julia Roberts has achieved considerable success in both the theatre and the film industry. Her numerous accolades include an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role and an additional four Golden Globes. Roberts has also been nominated for anume number four times. Born in segregated Mississippi as the youngest of five children, Roberts grew up in Washington D.C.

A childhood friend of Roberts’ older sister, Annanea Pinkleton, she was inspired by the “goddesses” in their home and went on to become a model and actress in several films before landing a role as an elevator girl in the hugely popular spaghetti western, spaghetti juncture. After some time off, Roberts decided to concentrate on theatre, working on such shows as The Heartbreak Kid. Later appearances in plays and films such as A Few Good Men, We Are Marshall, and O Brother, Sister Lefty, catapulted her to Hollywood stardom. Following the aforementioned Academy Awards, Julia Roberts became the first woman to win the Best Actress award for her role in A Few Good Men, becoming the second female to win the Oscar for her first Best Actress role, following Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

After a string of well-received films, including a turn in the critically acclaimed Pleasantville, Julia Roberts began a 25-year absence from Hollywood. Amidst the clamor for her return, she made a series of controversial statements regarding her love life with men and minorities. These statements were criticized by a number of her peers and fellow actors, with some even likening Roberts’ statements to that of Marilyn Monroe and Edith Piaf.

Her first major movie was the drama Blood Red, as written by her friend and sometime actor Mike Nichols. The film depicts a love story between a rich, attractive woman and a man who were penniless and abusive towards her. The movie was set during the 1950s and would eventually receive fourteen nominations and winning seven Oscars, including for Best Picture. For her portrayal of Holly Golightly, Julia Roberts was nominated for an additional Oscar for her work in the film. Her other films include the movie Mystic River, Get Shorty, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

After her absence, Julia Roberts was seen in more popular movies, such as the remake of Rosemary for which she received rave reviews, and the movie Pleasantville. In addition to returning to the screen in some popular roles, Julia Roberts also had a chance to star opposite some of the best actors in Hollywood. Her notable appearances include the casts of Everybody Loves Raymond, Who’s That Girl, and E.T. She also appeared in the comedy Man on the Moon, and its sequel A Beautiful Mind.

Her most famous role to date is that of Selina Kyle Cook in the film version of A Christmas Story. While many critics found the film to be substandard, Julia Roberts still received warm reviews for her work. Her other films to receive critical acclaim include Edward Scissorhands, Zero Days, and Edward Scissorhands II. Other notables are thrillers such as Edward Scissorhands, The Perfect Score, and Zero Days. No list of Julia Roberts’ films would be complete without her mention of the Fantastic Four: Spider-Man and Fantastic Four: Homecoming.
