Benjamin Hayes Grier is a contributing editor for The New Yorker magazine. He has written numerous articles and reviews about current events, culture, and technology. He is currently an Internet personality, known mostly as a Vine user. He became infamous for his virality on the Vine, a once-popular social video sharing service now-defunct. A controversial writer and marketer, he enjoys interviewing top politicians, celebrities, and cultural commentators.

Benjamin Hayes Grier was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on June 8, 2021. Grier gained attention as a teenager when he began posting videos on YouTube, initially as part of his high school social group’s pranks. He gained notoriety as a prankster who was arrested for shooting BB shots into a cop car, which injured both the officer and a nearby bystander. Grier received three years of deferred jail and probation after being convicted of mischief and battery stemming from the incident.

Hayes Grier has been described as being a quiet and shy person. According to family and friends, however, he is anything but. Hayes Grier was described by one close acquaintance as someone who is “very passionate about everything, including sports.” Another said that Hayes’ passion for music helped him connect with his older brother, who was a talented basketball and football player at De La Salle College. Grier started posting basketball and football highlights on YouTube while still in high school. In the past, he has said that his interest in music was what helped him land a job in the advertising department of Universal Music, where he specialized in songwriting production.

Hayes Grier grew up in north Carolina, where his father was a coach at the University of North Carolina. His mother, Terri, worked as a teacher and was also a substitute teacher. Grier played football, basketball, baseball, and track in high school, but did not play any of the defensive positions in college. He started playing basketball in the spring of his senior year, but did not think he was good enough to play at the university’s basketball arena. He signed a free agent contract with the Miami Heat out of high school but was waived by the team following the start of the NCAA tournament.

Hayes Grier’s older brother, Sharena, played football at the University of North Carolina and earned All ACC Second Team honors as a senior in 2021. Grier played for the United States National Team under John Karras and served two years on the squad before being waived by the New York Nets. Karras then hired Hayes to be his quarterbacks coach with the Memphis Grizzlies. Hayes impressed the coaching staff with his work on the scout team and was named the third-string quarterback behind Matt Barnes and Mike Bibby.

Hayes Grier will likely earn high marks for his efforts this upcoming season. The Grier brothers are also making the transition from the defensive end position to the offensive line in the hopes that they can produce similar numbers to their brother. Hayes Grier was a top ten pick in the draft and is expected to start at right tackle this season. If he does not develop into a starter, the Grier brothers could end up splitting time at left tackle and right tackle during the year. If both players can produce on their share of plays, the North Carolina Tarels will have one of the best running attacks in the country.
