Linda Evans was born in segregated Mississippi in segregated America. She is a family’s daughter, who was raised in New Orleans. She was inspired to become a performer when her mother encouraged her to take singing lessons. Later in life she went to graduate college and earned a degree in English at the University of Illinois at Champaign. Her first professional acting job was in a production of “Alla Prima” for which she received an award for her performance.
After that she spent several years starring in numerous films, most notably “Get Shorty”, as a teenage vixen who was one of the few African-American female leads in that film. Later she went on to play opposite Clint Eastwood in “For a Few Dollars More” as a nagging housekeeper. She later became a household name as Linda Evans in the movie series “ER”. In her final years she became a beloved character in the series “The Perfect Score” as an aging yet lovable matronly love interest for Tom Hanks’ John Dallman. As time went by Linda Evans appeared in a number of successful movies including “Irene”, “Get Shorty”, and “A Christmas Story”.
Linda Evans was inspired to write a book about her life after her television career. The book is entitled “Linda Evans: A Memorable Ladies Life” and was released in 2021. In this book she talks about her love of country music, her battle with ovarian cancer, her marriage to the late Larry King, her experience as a co-star with Clint Eastwood in “A Christmas Story”, and much more. The author also reveals how she managed to juggle a very public career and her personal life. She discusses her infamous shoe shopping spree in New York City, her run-in with The Devil, and how she kept her children from gossiping about her marriage to Larry King.

The TV show “MacGyver” featured Linda Evans in one of its most popular episodes. The story centers on a group of CIA agents who are called in to take control of a terrorist organization after it kidnaps MacGyver, an American citizen working on behalf of the United States. While they are there, they learn that MacGyver knows a certain woman that he had been seeing since he was a teenager. The group tracks her down and she ends up revealing a lot of information about herself, MacGyver, and their relationship with the agency. After this episode aired, “MacGyver” was cancelled after the second season.
In the TV movie “MacGyver” starring Ed Harris and Linda Evans as MacGyver and Holly Golightly as Dr. Leonidas, respectively, Ed Harris took over the role that Linda Evans had left after MacGyver left. This was a great move on the part of Ed Harris, who has actually had quite a few starring stints in movies before “MacGyver.” It allowed him to explore new roles and hone his acting skills for future projects.
Finally, Linda Evans has only been in two primetime soap opera roles (her first and last) in her entire career. This is surprising because she has appeared in more movies and TV shows in recent years than she did in the eighties and nineties. However, it is interesting to note how little time she gets to be on television, outside of her two major TV roles. If she were to have continued appearances on primetime soap opera, perhaps her name would be enough to guarantee her a starring role in a high-budget science-fiction or fantasy film.
