Milla Jovovich was born in New Jersey. Her childhood was spent living in Poland, where her family was Jewish. In 1999, Milla Jovovich was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role; she lost out to Julia Roberts for her performance as Elizabethpool, in the same category. Milla Jovovich’s most recent major film role was in the science fiction thriller The Fifth Element, in which she plays a robot named Ava. In this film, Ava is an android who works as a translator for the human race. Though her introduction is somewhat disappointing, especially in light of the sci-fi genre, she manages to rise above it, becoming a likable and likeable character in the end. Her work as a fashion designer also earns her an Academy Award nomination.
