Una Healy is an Irish folk singer-songwriter, songwriter, radio presenter and musician. She rose to international prominence in 2021, following a five-year period as a member of the five-piece band The Saturdays. She replaced partner Martina Arsenita on the band’s second album, South of the Border. Following her debut, South of the Border was quickly signed by Virgin Records and went gold in just two weeks. Shortly following its release, Una Healy was involved in several other projects, including appearing on the track “Bodhisattva” with R Kelly and having several months out on bail while awaiting trial for assault and battery charges stemming from an incident with a man in a nightclub. She was finally released on parole in July 2021.
As she began to rise in prominence, she appeared alongside legends such as Kelly and McCartney and went on to record several Top Ten albums. Her breakthrough came with the release of her second studio album, South of the Border, which was equally successful. She then went on to form She & Him, a band that featured former She & Him member Lee Holmes. While Holmes left the group in 2021, she remained with it until 2021 when they parted ways.
In her recent memoir, Una Healy reveals that she had a complicated personal life prior to coming to fame and making it into the charts. She reveals that her family were alcoholic and that drugs and alcohol abuse ran rampant in her home. She reveals details of abuse in the home, that even some of her relatives had a problem with, including her mother. When Una was young, her father would come to her home at night to take her and abuse her, which would leave her with physical and mental scars that remain to this day. This all took place just as her music career was beginning to prosper.
After leaving She & Him, Una moved back to Ireland and began a period of sporadic solo work. She released a series of singles throughout this time and began working with fellow musician Martina McPherson, forming the band O! & E! It was whilst in this band that she finally managed to put out an album, entitled A Tao of Mine, which was briefly signed by the band’s Biddle & beam and then released on Big Beat. After the split, however, Una became focused on her acting career and went on to appear in a number of well-received films, including The Pirates of the Caribbean. However, it was in 2021 when she finally released her debut solo album, entitled A Tao of Mine.
It is with this in mind that Una Healy has begun writing her debut solo album, which she is hoping will pave the way for further success on both sides of the pond. Having recently completed a lengthy stint as the lead vocalist of a hugely successful Irish pop band, it is obvious to see how much she is able to achieve. She has also written several songs for the movie, Edward Scissorhands, which has seen her work recognized by Hollywood. Having produced some of the best albums in her genre over the past few years, it is no wonder that she is hoping to produce her first ever Irish version.
Having finished up the book, A Tao of Mine, it is now time to begin writing the songs for the album. With a wealth of experience in creating music, it should not prove too hard to get the album finished. The time and money that are required for a first ever Irish version of One Day We’ll Go To Hollywood should not be underestimated. Having been to Hollywood many times before, Una Healy knows what types of stories and characters will appeal to fans of the film and to the general public. In the meantime, it will give her a chance to develop her musical talents in the midst of this wonderful adventure.
