Fernando Colunga is a Mexican film star best known for his role as the ruthless, gun-toting lawyer in popular telenovela series. In the late 1980s, Colunga decided to pursue his acting career, traveling to the United States to study with the American director Bill Zipory. Though he had shortlisted many students for a part in one of his telenovelas, Colunga was not selected. The reason was that, as a civil engineer, he did not fit the required bill of an actor. The director then asked him to travel south to Los Angeles to work on one of his favorite shows, ‘La Habana’. It was a show which he excelled at and went on to play the lead role of a leading character in the series. It was this role that would make Colunga famous all over the world.
In the mid 1960s, Colunga travelled to the United Kingdom to find work. He landed a role on the soap opera ‘I Spy’ (also known as ‘Spooks’). Though the programme was popular, it was short-lived. He also had a small role in the movie ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ as a spy. The British network sitcom ‘The Stepford Wives’ gave him another breakthrough as an actor when it casted him as Oliver Bracknell, a man who worked for the British secret services. Though he was not given a role on the show, he was nominated for an OBE (Oscar) for the same role.Vai
