Victor Rasuk is a world renowned stand up comedian and screenwriter. He has written for some of Hollywood’s greatest comedy writers such asorman Renecker, Mike Myers, and Bill Murray. His work has appeared in some of the most memorable films of recent years including Superbad, Bridesmaids, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. His work has been screened at some of the best venues in Hollywood and throughout the world.
Victor Rasuk was born in Brooklyn, New York and grew up attending the local adult performing arts school called “The Academy.” As a teenager he was known for his stage fright but with the help of a loving family he was able to overcome his shyness and perform with great success in both the Broadway and Off-Broadway theater. He went on to play numerous roles in films including Big, Saturday Night Fever, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, and Pretty Woman. Besides his professional acting career he has also spent time as an author and wrote several books about life on the outside.
When he was twenty-two years old Rasuk decided to leave the United States to return to New York City where he had fallen in love with. He rented an apartment in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, where he hung out with his friends and fellow comedians. When he had finally gotten enough money to rent an apartment and buy his first house in New York, he found out that one of the tenants was Jewish. Rasuk thought it would be a great idea to invite him to perform at his new club, The Comedy Club.

On the night of August thirty-first Rasuk took center stage in what is known as “The World’s Most Popular Comedian.” This performance was meant to test the boundaries of what was not politically correct and Rasuk found himself being censored repeatedly by the head writer of Variety magazine. The publicity surrounding this performance included a front cover that read “Victor Rasuk – Jew from New York.” Despite this censorship, Rasuk still managed to get an enormous amount of publicity, which included a book deal and several recording deals.
Two other films that came out while Rasuk were popular were “When Harry Met Sally” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” Both movies featured Michael Caine as the comic relief character, but his breakout role came in the latter movie where he played the role of Dr. David Spade. Caine’s role was so important that when the character died in the sequel, it was planned that Rasuk would play the character in the prequels. The role of David Spade is what made Rasuk a star in the eyes of mainstream audiences.
While many people may discount him as a Method actor, Victor Rasuk was in fact a very talented performer, and in my opinion, is one of the best. The role of Rasuk in the latter two movies truly elevated him to the level of an actor who could have been compared to Gene Hackman or Denholm Elliott in some respects. There is no doubt that he had a hard time finding work, but as with all performers, hard work eventually pays off. Many believe that when he finally found work in Hollywood, his roles were small and not near his ability, but in my opinion, he did show great ability, and should be remembered for his work.
