Valeria Lukyanova was born in Yaroslave, Ukraine in 1954. She is listed as one of the world’s most popular models. Her biography on Wikipedia claims that she was a talented child who was always “very curious and hyper”. She attended the prestigious Lycomings School in England, where she became obsessed with art and drawing.
She moved to Ukraine in the late 1960s, where she was often photographed by Oleksandr Pushkin, whose works she had particularly taken an interest in. Valeria Lukyanova studied acting and even spent some time performing on the stage, before becoming a well-known Ukrainian entertainer. She has appeared in numerous films, television programs, commercials and other media, often portraying peasant women. The real life version of Valeria Lukyanova was a much-criticized figure in the late twentieth century, frequently being depicted as a blonde, cold beauty who coldly dismissed any attempts at romance or flirting with men. She was married several times, most notably to Aleksandr Pushkin, whom she divorced in 1970.
Following her divorce from Pushkin, Lukyanova began a correspondence with Aleksandr Pushkin’s son, commenting that she was pleased with his “fair” wife. It was this correspondence which brought about the idea of the Soviet union. Pushkin died in a plane crash over Smolensk on 24 August, while travelling on a business flight.
