Sigourney Weaver was born in 1941 and she began acting at the age of nine. She went on to play various supporting characters in movies including “The Perfect Storm”, “The Time Between the Thunder and the Sun” and “Ladies of Leisure”. Her most famous role would be in the movie “Gaslight” as Ripley, an escaped slave who becomes a heroine. At nineteen she was in the lead role in the movies “Pages From the Stone” and “The Night We Never Saw” as the young wife of a Civil War hero. From this time she also appeared in television shows and films such as “Mildred Pierce” and “The Quiet Man”. After her film career she decided to concentrate on playing individuals who were considered “undeserving” by society.
After working for some time in New York she decided to move to Hollywood and to become one of the best known and respected actresses of her time. In this period of time she was known for being a leading characters in movies such as “A Clockwork Orange”, “Dune”, “Aliens vs. Predator” and “Masters of Evil”. From here she was known for developing various different roles that led many to believe that she was successful in her career.
The first major role that she was able to turn in would have to be in “A Clockwork Orange”. This film would introduce us to Sigourney Weaver’s alien friend from the future called the android. This would be the first film that would show her acting as an alien as opposed to simply playing a supporting character. In fact her role would prove so good that her performance was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Two other films that would feature Sigourney Weaver would feature her in were “Aliens Vs. Predator”, which was an action-packed movie, and “A Woman for Sale”. These two movies would also feature Weaver’s best known roles of all, and she would definitely have the honor of playing the role of Ripley in the first film. All of these films would end up winning the major award at the Oscars, and would win Sigourney Weaver a Golden Globe for her work as Ripley.
After the year ended there was a need for more films starring the actress, and she was then given the chance to play the role of Carol Ripley in the second film of the Alien series, titled “Aliens”. The movie managed to establish her as a leading role model in the entertainment industry, and this would continue with the third and fourth Alien films that she starred in. This was also the year that she would also get to reprise her role of Ripley in the spin-off “Aliens Vs. Predator”, which was a very well-received movie.
These films did not help to restore the glory of Sigourney Weaver’s career, but she did receive an Academy Award nomination for her work in these movies. And even though the “Aliens” movies became a box office hit and turned out to be commercial flops, it didn’t dampen her public persona, nor would she ever entertain the thought of playing Ripley again. Her acting career would carry on into the next decade, and she would always be recognized for her roles in fantasy films. But in this current day and age of internet, it seems that everyone is able to acquire any part that they want.
