Claire Danes first made a name for herself in the late seventies when she was cast as the villains in the drama series “Man fromclosure.” This role earned her a Golden Globe nomination. After that she went on to play the lead role in the television series “ER.” This period also saw the development of her talent for writing, both fiction and non-fiction. She wrote a book entitled “Come Back, Come Back, Little Rose” which was actually a sequel of her film “Man fromclosure.” Claire Danes did go back to playing the villain in a later episode of the series “The Perfect Score” but this did not go well as the producers thought that the character was no longer humorous and that audiences were no longer scared of her.

Claire Danes broke into Hollywood in the eighties with the release of her first film “A Christmas Story.” This romantic comedy/ Drama featured Danes alongside the likes of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Edward Norton, and Bruce Willis. This film helped Claire Danes garner critical acclaim, which led to her being nominated for an Oscar for her next film, “A Time To Kill.” Her second film, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” followed in her footsteps. This film also went on to become a box office hit and became one of only a handful of comedies to win a Best Picture Oscar.

In 1996, Claire Danes starred in a hit British film as a young woman who moves back in time. This role would become known as the role of Elizabeth Burney. This film also featured Michael Caine. Two years later, the actress would again return to the spotlight in the film “A Fish called Wanda.” This time around she played the wife of a tycoon who has had an affair with his secretary.

Claire Danes’ next film career-and arguably her greatest-was in the crime drama “Mockingbird.” She again played a supporting role, this time as the cynical, yet lovable villainess, Miss Daisy. This film earned Claire Danes another Oscar nomination and resulted in her receiving the Best Actress award at the 1996 Academy Awards. She went on to receive additional Oscar nominations for her roles in “Amadeus” and “Man on the Moon.”

Claire Danes most popular role in her native England was in the movie “About Ella.” She appeared as the young American woman who becomes the loyal friend and confidante of Ella Mellor, the spoiled American secret agent. This film, which was released in theaters during the spring of 1998, also starred Julia Roberts and Tommy Lee Jones. Claire Danes once again returned to the big screen, this time playing the role of a villainess in the movie “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.”
