Mya Harrison was born in Cleveland, Ohio. She is best known for her work with artists such as Rihanna, Lil Wayne, Push Shop, Akon, and Elton John among others. A versatile performer, her discography also features appearances by artists like Rihanna, J.J. Simpson, Chris Brown, Luther Vandross, Ashanti, and Usher. She has sold millions of records worldwide and garnered numerous awards for her music including multiple Grammys.
Mya Harrison was a name that was given to her in her birth by her mother’s side of the family. Her full name is Myaamia Harrison-Green. She grew up in Washington D.C. surrounded by people of Caribbean descent. Growing up in an American town, she also attended Bowie High School along with her two cousins. After graduating she continued to attend Georgetown University where she earned a degree in Social Work. This was the time that her career as an artist began as she landed a job as a counselor at the National AIDS Society.
Prior to moving to New York, where her career began, her family had a small business in a small town called Washington County, Ohio. Mya started her career as a counselor at the school as a young woman called Michele Smith, who worked as an administrative assistant. After leaving the administration position, she decided to pursue a degree in Social Work at the University of Washington in Seattle. The only course that was offered at the time was college courses which required a great deal of traveling and she did not want to do that.
Mya’s path to stardom did not stop when she went to college in Seattle. She went on to rehearse with The Replacements, The Eagles and finally went on to star on Broadway in a play called Noises Off. Once her Broadway career ended, Mya decided that it was time to move to Los Angeles and work with some of the entertainment industry’s A-list. She signed with RCA Records and released a number of singles including such hits as “Falling In Love With You”, “Honey Do Loves Me” and “I’m a Believer”. She eventually went back to performing with The Replacements and The Eagles but these attempts were not successful.
Eventually, Mya settled down in Palm Springs, California and worked with Reba and Sherry Lewis for their well received self-titled debut album. The album was an immediate success and Mya was nominated for a grammy award for the song “Mystery Train”. Reba was equally successful with her self-titled album, which went gold and spawned four other EPs. When Mya decided that it was time to move on to bigger and better things, she bought herself a small mountain house in Encinitas and started a construction company. Her new business allowed her to spend more time with her family and pursue her dream of having a great family life. By this time she was well on her way to becoming one of the best known and respected talents in the world of music.
