She is known for her long and successful career in the world of professional wrestling. Her achievements have earned her the titles of Women’s Wrestler of the Year three times, the first women ever to accomplish such an award, as well as Women’s Tag Team Champion once. She holds a record five WWE championship title, which makes her a true Icon in the industry.
Maria Menounos was born in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of immigrants from Greece. Her family was originally Greek, but she grew up in a middle-class family that supported itself by becoming an avid fan of both wrestling and the Greek Culture. As a child, Maria would watch her father, a talented wrestling standout, do battle in the streets. Her passion for the sport would surface later on, when she was inspired by the life of Rene Lacape, a Greek wrestling star who was murdered at the age of twenty-one.
Maria Menounos has appeared in some of her most popular films, including “icide”, “The Pursuit of Happyness”, “Catch Me If You Can”, and the award-winning “Wreck-It Ralph”. She was an alternate contestant on the third season of “Survivor” and was eliminated after the first Tribal Switch. Prior to that, she had never competed in a Tribal contest nor had any experience in the ring outside of her role as a professional wrestler. Maria Menounos has also been married to professional wrestler Ric Flair, who has given her several wrestling matches throughout their marriage. After the marriage, they owned a pet store together. Their son, Austin, is now a professional wrestler in his own right.
On he big screen, Maria Menounos has been recognized for her supporting role in the award-winning documentary “Anchorman: To Where There’s Life.” She also had a small role in the highly acclaimed film The Informant! She appeared in the second episode of the fourth season of NBC’s “Heroes,” and she will next appear in the upcoming film “Black Rain” alongside Will Ferrell. As television continues to grow in popularity, more roles for Menounos are sure to open up. The next film that she will be seen in will mark her biggest acting break yet.
Maria Menounos has also established herself as an accomplished writer, having pencilled scripts for a number of her own screenplays. Her novel, “The Princess of Mars”, was published in 2021. In her latest novel, she will feature herself as the head of a planetary corporation. This book will be published in June of 2021. Other novelistic endeavors include the comic strip “The Princess and the Pea,” which she wrote for DC comics'” Vertigo.” Maria Menounos has written a number of screenplays that have been produced into movies, including the award-winning “The Princess and the Pea.”
Maria Menounos currently resides in New York City. She is listed in the New York Times’ Hot List, which is considered to be the best overall ranking of local celebrities.
