Lenny Kravitz was born in Hungary in 1961. A childhood friend of Robert Plant, he was a talented pianist. He studied music theory, composition, and composition with Herb Ellis. After graduating in 1970, Kraviz went to work for Moog Records, where he worked with such artists as Slumdog Millionaire’s vocalist, Slick bass player, J.J. Johnson, Aretha Franklin, and the Temptations’ front woman, Debra Wilson. Eventually, Kraviz went to work with Paul Simon on some of his greatest songs, including “Cocaine” and “Simon & Garfunkel.” Kraviz went on to score videos for numerous artists including The Who, King Curtis, Mary J. Blige, Smokey Robinson, and The Beach Boys.
Alongside Richard Mulchrone, Lenny Kravitz served as a member of The Doobie Brothers. However, when Mulchrone left the band in 1980, Kraviz felt that it was his time to leave. He signed a contract with German rock band Mottley Crue and formed his own band called Gon Na Go. Kraviz’s unique voice and guitar techniques earned him a deal with Merge Records, which gave him the opportunity to record an album entitled Help! Out Now, which was a massive success and put him in the limelight with other up-and-coming musicians.

Though he never reached the fame garnered by players like Cream, Aerosmith, or Rod Stewart, Lenny Kravitz did help launch a career in the music industry. With his help, The Rolling Stone became a popular magazine, which ran for 14 years, covering many topics from fashion to politics. As a member of The Doobie Brothers, Kraviz went on to record an album entitled Just Friends. Though it featured contributions from numerous other musicians, it was his song, Just Friends, that became the theme for the film Finding Nemo, as well as an animated series. As a result of his work, Kraviz has become one of the most recognizable names in the music industry, and his contributions to the musical genre cannot be overlooked.
Lenny Kravitz continues to tour today, providing music to numerous other artists as well as acting in a movie about his life. His name remains synonymous with great music, as well as with humor. Though he has had his ups and downs throughout his career, he is still well-known and respected within the rock music industry. Following his success, he has continued to produce music, both as a member of The Doobie Brothers and with numerous other groups.
