Laura Wright was an American television actress who appeared on numerous popular television programs throughout the 1980s. She is most famous for her notable roles as Ally Sheedy on The City and Cassie Layne Winslow in Loving; both of which earned her the Daytime Emmy Award for outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 1985. Other notable roles include: icky from the series M.A.S.H., Chief Jim Hopper from the western series Gunfighter, and Judge Joe Ford on courtroom drama CHEERS. Laura was married to actor/comedian John Wright and the couple had two daughters. Her children are a teenager named Lauren and a man called Dan.

Laura was born in Omaha, Nebraska and is of Italian decent. She has stated that her Italian is good and her English is not so good. Laura was a member of the City Academy of Art in New York and that is where she met John Wright. Laura has been quoted as saying that her greatest memory of her life is her relationship with John and the birth of their daughter.

Laura is the daughter of Mary Louise (nee Wright) and Richard Wright. She was born in Omaha in September of 1958. Her father worked for the Forest Pharmaceuticals Corporation and her mother was an aspiring writer. They divorced when Laura was about fourteen years old. It is reported that Laura was one of five children of Richard and Bette Midler who were married in 1947. Laura was raised in Washington, DC in a large Catholic family.

Laura attended the prep school, Friendship College in New York City where she began her stage acting career. She went on to play the title role in the classic musical, Grease, opposite Carol Burnett, and later went on to play the title role in another very popular Broadway play, Aida. After these two roles, Laura was cast as a contestant on the popular television series, The Price is Right. This show lasted for five seasons and was very popular. Then she went on to play the title role in the movie adaptation of the same show, Finding Nemo.

Laura has also appeared on several episodes of Law and Order as well as several episodes of CSI. Laura was recently seen on an episode of Dancing with the Stars as a guest dancer. Laura has also had small parts in movies such as American Beauty, Gossip Girl, Sex and the City, and the upcoming The Shape.
