Joan Smalls was born in Brooklyn, New York City. She attended the Academy of Art Institute of Design and Fashion where she earned a degree in design and marketing. In 2002 she was listed as one of People magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful Women. Joan Smalls has also been featured on numerous television programs including Dateline and The Oprah Winfrey Show. Joan is currently a fashion designer for Estee Lauder.
Joan Smalls first became well known in the world of fashion when her boyfriend, Jonatan Rago, left her for another man in 2004. He had been dating her since they met at an art gallery. Joan was very upset that her boyfriend would not let her leave him. Because of this, Jonatan decided to elope with Joan, but before leaving, he gave her a small fortune. Her new boyfriend gave her a ring that night which soon became a symbol for their relationship. Later on, the ring was displayed in their home and Joan proudly presented it to her soon to be ex-boyfriend.
A year later, Joan Smalls moved to Puerto Rico to live with her mother in a rented house. There, she met Juan Guez who was working as a mailman. The two instantly had a great connection and soon started having dates. One day, Juan invited her over to his house for lunch, which she accepted.

On August 7th, Joan Smalls posted a photo to her Instagram account captioned “A post shared by Joan Smalls age 6 from Puerto Rico”. Immediately following the post, her fans flooded her page with comments, asking where she was. Joan, not wanting anyone to contact her, promptly deleted her Instagram account. On October 3rd, it was announced that Joan was pregnant with twin daughters.
