In this first disc, “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” Scott does allow herself some space as she lets herself become a part of the songs instead of merely singing them. This personal space allows her to showcase her various talents and allow others to benefit from her unique vocal style. She sings with passion and clarity, but also with a hint of humor as she takes on one-man shows or a duo of lead vocals as she performs. Her mix of vocal styles is quite striking and if the blend of different vocal elements doesn’t work well, the audience will be left wanting more. Her voice will be undeniable throughout the track and the crowd will get into it with ease.
With “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” Jill Scott gets her own long walk. The album pays homage to the life of stand up comic Phil Hartman and his long walks across the stage with his distinctive style.
