W. Axl Rose is a professional musician, singer/songwriter and guitarist. He is also currently the only constant member of the legendary hard rock band Guns N’ Roses since their formation in 1985 and is known for being their primary lead vocalist and guitar player. Though he started playing an acoustic guitar when he was still a teenager, Rose instead became interested in joining a more popular band like the Yardbirds, but didn’t get to enjoy their music. Instead, Rose moved to hone his skills with his vocal chords, and then performing with various groups that would eventually become the massive rock band that they are today.

Though the story of Axl Rose’s rise to stardom is quite remarkable, it’s also true that he had some major difficulties in the beginning of his career, including having his voice repeatedly blocked by his teeth, a broken arm during a rehearsal, and being kicked out of the band by Don Eddis and Tommy Lee during their induction into the Rock Hall of Fame in the year 1996. After a lengthy court battle, Rose was able to get his lawsuit dismissed, which led him to focus more on his recording career, which has included such albums as Appetite for Extortion, Slumbergen, and Diamond Dogs. Some of his early recordings with Guns N’ Roses helped establish a sound that would become synonymous with the future rock genre of heavy metal. Though Rose did not create the kind of musical influence that he is known for today, one piece of equipment that he did use was the ancient model of rackets known as the makings of Axl Rose.

There is a bit of conflicting history about the origins of Guns-n-Roses frontman, Axl Rose. Although many sources tell the story of how he developed his unique sound through trial and error, his biological father, an American serviceman, claims that Rose never used any of his knowledge of guitar playing or invention to shape his son. According to this biographer, Rose used his natural talents to invent the songs that became favorites with the audience of Guns-n-Roses. “He had always been very fascinated by Chinese democracy,” says Robert Rose, an American who was raised in Los Angeles. “He saw the potential for something like this in China, where people were treated to songs that reflected their struggle against corruption.”

The biographer goes on to say that during his years in the armed forces, Rose was sexually abused by members of his unit. Though he was given a Purple Heart medal posthumously, he claims that his unit leader, Private First Class Richard C. Laramy, didn’t think that the wound that Rose suffered was enough to warrant reporting it to the American military authorities. Instead, he allegedly told Rose that he should “stick to playing guitar and writing,” and encouraged him to “burn his papers” when he got home. This was a troubling suggestion, especially considering that Rose’s sexual trauma was so fresh in his mind; he may have thought that he had done some damage to himself, rather than the American military.

When asked about the circumstances surrounding the alleged sexual abuse by his unit leader, Rose would only say, “Who else knows what I’m talking about?” Though this response was unsatisfactory to many fans, others were not disheartened by this response. “I’m not surprised that he thinks that way,” said Chris Taylor, a member of Guns-n-Roses. “I believe that all artists, even those who are not sexually abused, know better than to turn down the power of their words and comeback to their abusers, even if they are hurting themselves in the process.” This statement is indicative of Rose’s propensity to “burn his papers,” as well as other evidence that will surface in the upcoming Guns-n-Roses album.

Axl Rose, who is set to make an album in the near future, previously stated that Chinese Democracy was not about political rights or freedom, but rather about how Chinese women are treated in general. In response to the controversy, Chinese Democracy has released a tongue-in-cheek video poking fun at both Axl Rose and Chinese Democracy. The video includes a picture of Rose sitting on a toilet seat with a Chinese girl. To date, it is unclear whether Guns-n-Roses plans to release a follow-up to Chinese Democracy, or if they will just come up with a completely new genre altogether.
