Idina Menzel was born in Cleveland, Ohio. Her family is Jewish, but she grew up in Southern California. She studied acting at the University of California – Los Angeles, earning a degree in drama and acting as a model.
Idina Menzel was cast in the very first pilot episode of “Heroes” on ABC. After the series went to series order, she appeared in the second episode. Since then she has gone on to star in many popular television shows, including “Heroes,” “Eureka,” and “Life’s a beach.” Her latest film, “Wild Things,” is set to hit theaters in late March. In the film, she plays an aging Jewish woman who reunites with a young man in New York City, goes on a wild night of partying, falls for a mysterious man, and meets an old friend.
Idina Menzel was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her role as Yehuda Meitelberg in “The Man Who Played with Animals,” opposite Goldie Hawn. Though she resume isn’t as strong as those of other actresses nominated that year, she remains a strong favorite among movie critics. Her best films to date include “A Dog’s Life,” “Sandra Bullock: I’m a Celebrity,” “The Secrets of Spy Management,” and “The Secret.” Her role in the latter earned her an Academy Award nomination. The movie wasn’t as successful as expected, however, and hasn’t been released in the United States yet.
Idina Menzel was nominated for anume of her role as Ariel in Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” earlier this year, but lost out toeryl Streep for her role as Triton in the movie version of that Disney animated classic. The actress also received a nomination for the same award for her turn as Nemo in the sequel to that animated film. If she were to win the Oscar for supporting actress in a leading role, she would be the first ever woman to do so. Idina Menzel continues to work today, playing different roles in both mainstream and independent films. She has appeared in the TV shows” Scorpion King” and “Eureka” on ABC. She most recently finished filming the thriller “The Shape.”
Idina Menzel has also gained some exposure on the big screen in her role as Rachel Berry in the second season of “Glee.” She had previously appeared in the TV show “This Is Us” as Glee’s cheerleader, Lea Michele. Her new role as Rachel Berry is certainly an exciting step further into the acting game for Menzel. The “Glee” cast includes both Jason Mantegna as Kurt Russell’s brother Jesse and Rachel Berry as Grant Gustafson, the show’s star. For anyone who has been keeping track at this point, Idina Menzel’s appearance on “E.T.” was the first of several notable guest appearances on the series.
Idina Menzel has certainly been working hard to build up her resume, but if she were to win the award for outstanding performance by an actress in a leading role, that would be an even bigger feat. Her resume is definitely stacked but I think she has one of the best careers of all time. Her Glee co-stars also deserve to be recognized for their supporting performances. They are simply great. They make “The Little Mermaid” a fun and entertaining family affair.
