Delta Goodrem was an Australian pop singer, songwriter, and actor. She signed to Sony Music at the tender age of fifteen. Her first album, Innocent Eyes, top the ARIA Albums Chart for 29 consecutive weeks. With her supermodel mom, she appeared in campaigns for the likes of Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Dior, and Calvin Klein. She was also inked into the ranks of Jack Luscious and Usher.

 

The Australian pop star Delta Goodrem was raised in Melbourne, Australia. She is best known for her songs “Come As You Are” and “Mysterious Ways”. She began her musical career with the band The Cactus Club, which she joined when she was sixteen years old. She left the group when she went to high school and majors in drama, music performance, and English at university. After college, she continued on with the Cactus Club, as well as appearing in a string of local shows, as well as with The Fifties cast. She finally released her first album in the late sixties entitled Mother!

 

Although Delta Goodrem never achieved the success that she deserved during the early sixties, she was a huge hit with both male and female audiences and was nominated for an MTV Award for “Best Australian Vocalist”. This gave her the opportunity to build a name for herself in the Australian national spotlight. A&R Australia, the label which she signed with, offered several platinum records, which helped make her one of the biggest recording stars of the time. She was so popular in Australia, that she was nominated for the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, which she did. This cemented her reputation as one of the most successful singing and recording talents of the Australian history.

 

In the late seventies, Delta went back to Cactus Club to record an album titled Cactus. This album included the hit “Reelin’ in the Years” and was met with massive popularity and achieved double platinum status. With this double album, Delta once again reached number two in the Australian charts, which made her even more popular in the country. Her next album, emaker Delta was released in the late eighties and became another massive hit. With this last release, Delta rose to new heights with her fourth album, Survive, Kaleidoscope, which contained numerous chart-topping hits.

 

Delta Goodrem is still touring today, playing to sold out arenas around the world. She has been nominated for many awards including the Polaris Awards and has won numerous awards including multiple Gemini awards, which are given to musical artists performing on all continents. Her extensive musical career is the result of numerous personal life challenges, which allowed her to grow and adapt to any type of atmosphere. Her voice has a tone that will have you dancing along to the beat and her unique vocals have helped her to become one of Australia’s best known female vocalists. In fact, her solo albums have reached number one in the US, Canada and the UK.

 

Delta Goodrem has also created several video clips for her singles “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” and “Hits Me First”. Her appearance on American Idol was probably one of the most memorable moments in the series, as she displayed the ability to sing and dance flawlessly. Her death came just under a week after the finale of the show, when Delta finished the final song by singing “Hits Me First” on her final performance. She is one of only a handful of Australian women to ever be seen on American Idol. Her role as a contestant made Delta one of the highest-selling debut albums in Australia’s history and launched her into a world beyond Australia’s borders.
