Deborah Cox is a Canadian pop artist, singer, songwriter and recording artist. She is well known for her sexy songs and was once married to The Weeknd. Born in Scarborough she grew up in a musical family and was surrounded by a number of different influences as a child including rock, reggae, folk, hip hop, country and even jazz. She quickly became disenchanted with the commercialism surrounding her music at the time and instead concentrated on developing her vocal skills. She made her first recorded album at the age of 16.
In the late eighties, she started to work with The Learning Annex, a label that gave birth to such artists as Skid Row, Ashanti, Fergie and J.Lo. Eventually she was signed to Belly Records, where she released her first self titled album. Shortly after this she was in the studio with The O’Jays, recording their debut album ‘Eruption’. This group also featured artists like Rihanna, Akon, Fabolat, P Diddy, J Lo and many others.
In the summer of 2021, it was revealed that Deborah Cox had was working on her next album. Initially it was supposed to be an EP focusing on her vocal abilities, but it was later decided to create a seven studio album titled World Pride. It was eventually released in the spring of 2021 and was quickly sold out. It went on to become one of the biggest selling debuts of all time.
Throughout the years, Deborah has gained a huge popularity amongst Canadian audiences because of the variety of songs that she sings. Her voice has an irresistible charm that can captivate audiences around the world. Her distinct yet soft voice has madedeborah a very successful singer. She has been nominated for many awards including the Polaris Music Awards for “Best Female Vocalist” and “Best Rock Performance”.
