Dakota Fanning is currently an American actor. She was born in Beverly Hills, California and grew up there. She has appeared in some films since then, most notably the award-winning The Pursuit of Happyness (2021), opposite Steve Martin. She then went on to play the title role in the acclaimed Kung Mangina, opposite Robert Downey Jr., in the film that was later made into a sequel. Her notable acting skills have also caught the attention of the Academy Award Nominee for Best Actress in a Leading Role, for her work in both Romance and Comedy films.
Dakota Fanning was born February 23, in Beverly Hills, California. She is of Chinese, American, and Irish decent. Dakota grew up in Southern California, where her father worked as a tour operator for Disneyland, while her mother babysilled her younger brother, Jamison, and her grandmother taught her English. Dakota attended La Habra High School, where she became known for being the best student in her class.
Dakota Fanning studied drama at Hampshire College in Portland, Maine, for two years before graduating in 1977. While at Hampshire, she played piano and violin and became interested in acting after her graduation. She did not try out for the Broadway cast of Rent It Priscilla, because she felt that the material wasn’t suited for an “average” actress. Instead, she began appearing on television, playing opposite Robert Downey Jr. in the short-lived Seinfeld pilot episode. Then, she appeared on the television series Weeds.
Dakota Fanning has also achieved some notable acting success on screen, playing the lead roles in both Bridget Jones Diary and Big Miracle. She also appeared in Kill Bill, alongside Tom Selleck, in which she played the first female character that was introduced to the series by director Quentin Tarantino. She played a nurse in the movie The Cable Guy and did voice work on several animated films, most notably Family Guy. Her supporting role in The Blind Side saw her playing a pregnant woman who had been previously married to a heroin addict, who she slowly broke free from under.

Dakota Fanning’s most popular and critically acclaimed acting role to date is the protagonist of the hit television show Orange is the new black. She played Serena Williams, a young woman from a poor upbringing who develops a love affair with a rich man and returns to her suburban home in order to raise her son (while breaking into a new store robbery). She then returns to her life of crime, shooting a gun accidentally, before eventually being arrested and later saving the lives of her own baby and another man. Dakota Fanning then appeared in the spin-off TV show Detour, playing the daughter of a man who was in custody for the murder of his partner.
