Bo Derek is an American award-winning actress and model best known for her breakout role in the classic sex/superhero movie, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Bo is perhaps best known for her role as Dr. Alice Craig in the science-fiction action film, The Fantastic Four. She was also directed by husband John Derek in Tarzan, Ape Man, Bolero, Ghosts Can’t Do it Again, and No More Heroes. She has also had small parts in TV shows like Wheel of Fortune and Granite Live.
Following the release of her first movie, Bo Derek received negative reviews for the film Fantastic Four, arguably one of the worst films of the year. She appeared in a number of video clips and has since moved on to starring in more successful films like Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and You Don’t Mess with the Zohan. She currently has no movies in development. Bo’s husband John Derek had a hand in producing the comedy film, and they have since divorced.
John Derek was a veteran television writer and producer who, along with his producing partner Lisa Wheeler, produced The Perfect Team, a series of romantic comedy movies for which Bo was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. Though the movie failed to receive distribution through MGM studios, it did make a decent amount of money. Bo stayed in Hollywood after the success of The Perfect Team, working with various television stations to create a number of episodes of Californication, The Office, Frasier, Cheers, Spinney Kids, among others.
She then went on to star in Californication, which lasted for five seasons, and also wrote and directed several episodes of the show. In the third season, she played the character of Meg Parkinson, a divorced housewife and mother who was a frequent visitor to John and Jane’s (obsessed about their daughter). Bo played the character of Ellenuders in the fourth season, which was cancelled after one episode. The role of Ellenuders was to mirror Bo’s situation in the movie; Bo was trying to come up with an identity for herself so that she could start her own show, called” Ellenuders.” She wanted to make the same type of impact as she did in Californication, but at the same time, she didn’t want to lose the fun that the show had a beginning.
Bo Derek appeared in several episodes of Friends, in which she was playing the role of Rachel Berry, who had gotten divorced from her second husband. She then went on to play Rosewood’s Phoebe Brooks in the TV series Everybody Loves Raymond, in which she again received negative criticism from her former fans. Finally, she returned to her role as Meg in Friends in which she became a mainstay in the show, playing the character of Ross Pritchett.
Bo Derek passed away in 2021 at the age of 34. Despite rumors that she was alive and well, no further details have been released. On the day of her death, however, one of Bo Derek’s former co-stars confirmed to People Magazine that the actress did in fact pass away, saying that she had just gotten a prescription for pain medication at the time of her death. No further details were given, but it is now known that Bo Derek did receive the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actress in 2021.
