Stevie Wonder is a well-known American vocalist, songwriter and musician. Known mostly for his multi-time sold out concerts in which he showcased various talents such as acoustic guitar, gospel music, rhythm and blues, and classic rock, Stevie Wonder has been awarded the induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame two times. Stevie Wonder is also known for his numerous duets with artists such as James Morrison, Cream, Chuck Berry, and The O’Jays. He has also formed his own groups such as Wishbonebone Lake and Mary J. Blige. Stevie Wonder first came to public attention when he was a teenager watching a jazz guitar lesson at age 14 in New York City. There he met the future artist blues singer and fellow teen hopefuls Stevie Mae.
Stevie Wonder’s life story is a fascinating one, especially when you read his many biographies written about him. Born in segregated Mississippi as the son of an African American family, Stevie Wonder’s childhood was filled with violence and abuse. According to reports, Stevie Wonder had his first brush with fame at the early age of fourteen when he was arrested for trespassing, disorderly conduct, trespassing, battery upon an officer, assault and battery, disturbing the peace, and drunken driving. While in juvenile prison, Stevie Wonder developed a reading obsession which led him to compose several popular songs while in prison. These songs were later covered by other musicians such as Run DMC and Luther Vandross.

After spending a single year in prison, Stevie Wonder released his first album entitled Lover’s Gone Missing. Following this, his career began to soar with hits such as” Buckingham Dollar Bills” and “izzyberry.” The following year, “Egg Man” was another hit that helped establish him as an overnight sensation. He went on to create the song and video for the rock song “Psi Rock,” which was actually a video for a song written by another co-writer named James Morrison. He also wrote the songs for the movie Love Actually and reunited with his band The Stevie Wonder Band.
No list of hits would be complete without noting Stevie Wonder’s greatest single “I Can Get Away,” which remains his only album to top the pop radio charts. Stevie Wonder then released three more albums including I Just Want To Have Fun and Purple Haze. Other hits from Stevie Wonder’s career include We Can Make It So Black, I Just Want To Have Fun Again, and Purple Haze.
Stevie Wonder’s career didn’t stop with the creation of his solo material either. In 1998 he decided to form the band Backstreet Boys with fellow artist DMC and was given the name “DMC.” For several years, the group stayed together, but the group finally broke up in 2021 and Stevie Wonder took a leave of absence. He then formed his own record label called Priority One and released several different albums and singles over the next few years including Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager, Here There And Everywhere and Finally… Rich Man Poor Man.
In the summer of 2021, the group broke up again and Stevie Wonder went back to performing, touring and making records. In July of that year, the group’s eleventh album titled After This Life, was released and the band hit the top ten with the single “Clairvoyance.” After this, the album rose to number eleven and stayed there for the remainder of the year.
